About this blog

Few people have known Hindus, especially the Bengali kind, as did Nirad Chaudhari. The miser that he was in flattery, it might come as a surprise to many, that he was effusive in praise for a novelist - Bankim Chatterjee, whom he eulogised to be at par with the immortal genius of Adi Sankara. Unfortunately, few people in modern India can even recite the whole “Vande mataram”, the most popular slogan during our freedom struggle. Some are even against it!

So it may not be prudent to expect anyone to have read the original novel, Anandamath. The english translations don’t go anywhere near the original composition. That one novel, however, has opened my eyes forever. One might argue that things have changed since then, but philosophically and intellectually speaking, the Hindu mind is still centuries old. The protagonist of Anandamath were Bhavananda, Jibananda and Mahendra and this blog is inspired by their memories. And this is how I would like to be known in the blogosphere.

Of course, over time intellectual perverts (yes, thats what I call the secular, liberal, progressives) have twisted the theme to dilute the fervent nationalism that flows from the book. Nevertheless, it has won my heart. Forever!
